Maytag Aircraft Corporation is close to completing its fueling facilities at Redstone Arsenal, Madison County Alabama. In April 2019 the bulk storage facility for re-fueling, as well as the retail station (gas station), will be finished.
Significantly, this contract is not the typical Government-Owned/Contractor-Operated award. Instead it is a Contractor-Owned/Contractor-Operated (COCO) award to design and build the bulk storage facility that will deliver aircraft fuel to the airfield, as well as the retail location.
Once commissioned, Maytag Aircraft will be responsible for all operations and maintenance.
The award with Redstone is the first COCO facility for which Maytag Aircraft is the prime contractor, with full responsibility for design and building, followed by Operations and Maintenance.
David Nelson, President and Chief Operating Officer of Maytag Aircraft, states, “Successful completion of this project will open up doors for Maytag Aircraft in building and designing fueling facilities.”
The award has a four year-base, with three five-year options.
Along with working to complete the Redstone facilities, Maytag Aircraft has successfully bid on, and been awarded, five-year contracts recently to provide air terminal and ground handling services to the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) in four countries.
The four locations include Caracas, Venezuela; Bogota, Columbia; Panama City, Panama; and Kingston, Jamaica.
The current political conditions in Venezuela present challenges. Nelson offers, “We hope to see change shortly that will open up relationships between the U.S. and Venezuelan governments and their people.”
Maytag Aircraft’s services are provided for military flights involving both cargo and passenger processing. The contracts will begin on July 1, 2019 and are typical of awards for which Maytag Aircraft has been responsible for over 60 years around the globe.
