Mercury Air Cargo continues to celebrate considerable growth within much of its operations.
In Los Angeles, Mercury Air Cargo welcomed back FedEx Trade, a significant force in the container freight station business, according to Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President John Peery. After breaking away from Mercury last year, they decided to return their business to Mercury. As of the end of November, they’ve reinstated operations with Mercury Air Cargo, bringing with them an ample amount of traffic and revenue for the company.
“It’s nice to be recognized, even after the fact, that the level of service was to expectation,” Peery said.
The company is also in talks with Philippine Airlines to provide services. A cargo handling proposal has also been submitted to Korean Airlines, one of the larger carriers at Los Angeles International Airport, for next year.
Also in Los Angeles, Mercury will bid farewell to longtime client Polar Air Cargo, a subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings in December. The company has elected to move out to its own cargo facilities, after six years of doing business within the Mercury facility.
“We lose them, but wish them well” Peery said.
Fortunately, there’s no shortage of new business elsewhere within Mercury Air Cargo.
In San Jose, they have secured Hainan Airlines, an airline who will also work with Mercury Air Cargo out of San Francisco and Los Angeles.
“Most of the export traffic for Hainan comes out of San Francisco, so the freight will be received, processed on the graveyard shift, and trucked to San Jose first thing in the morning, for connections to Beijing,” Peery said. “It’s a great win for us in San Jose,” he said.
Along with their current operations in San Jose, Mercury Air Cargo has secured American Airlines as of January 24. They also have proposals to two other carriers -Hawaiian Airlines and ANA Airlines for services out of San Jose.
“We’ve done quite well for ourselves,” Peery said, pointing out that in the short time the San Jose office has been open – since April 2016, or nine months – they’ve acquired five carriers with two more possible clients.
“It’s the level of services we provide,” he said. “The attitude of the staff, the responsiveness - all of it, in the service industry, is key to success and our people have been displaying it there and been doing a great job,” Peery said.
