Meet Mercury Air Cargo’s New Terminal Manager, Reggie Harris

Reggie Harris never expected to stay long at Mercury Air Cargo. His most recent job at the time had been as a Pepsi warehouse supervisor for seven years.

“I saw it as a temporary stop,” he said.

“I was in between jobs and wanted to try something I hadn’t done before,” he said. “I had no experience in cargo, I knew nothing about Mercury…But it gained my interest and it kept me here,” Reggie said.

That was 18 years ago. Reggie first joined Mercury Air Cargo in 1999 as an office agent.

Reggie was recently promoted to Terminal Manager of Division 213, where he sees the overall business and operational aspects of Mercury Air Cargo’s Avion facilities.

Early in his career at Mercury Air Cargo, he demonstrated an interest in the cargo business, and sought out opportunities for growth. He moved to the warehouse, then the export warehouse. He began seeking out leadership positions in 2002, and was promoted to lead and supervisor within two years. In 2004, he became a manager and has held management positions ever since: warehouse manager, export dock manager, account manager, assistant term manager, and now terminal manager.

“Mercury’s commitment to its employees is the main reason I’m still here,” he said.

He pointed to his own progression as someone who came into the field with no experience. “For someone to see that there’s a person who’s willing to learn, and them taking that interest in me and taking me under their wing…it showed me the way to where I am now,” he said.

For Reggie, he enjoys that while the job’s overall description remains the same, every day is different. “You never know what’s going to happen,” he said. “Things that happened today, aren’t going to happen tomorrow, and every day is a different day.

His fellow employees are also a big part of what he enjoys about his work.  “The people I work with are the best asset the company has,” he said.

“The experience they bring, and the overall commitment they have to Mercury and to me - it says a lot about them,” Reggie said.

“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” he said.

Outside of work, Reggie enjoys spending time with his family. He and his wife, Wyomie, have been married for 24 years, and together they have two daughters: Regina, 24, is a school teacher, and Keanna, 18, is a freshman in college.  In his spare time, he can often be found riding a bike or going for long walks for exercise, shopping, or maybe catching dinner and a movie, but he says the thing he enjoys most is outdoor cooking in his backyard.
