Maytag Aircraft Corporation has been working hard with the completion of their fueling facilities at Redstone Arsenal in Madison County, Alabama, as well as kicking off a new contract in four Central and South American locations and providing services to a bustling airbase in the Middle East.
The design and construction of Redstone’s facilities are complete, and operations began on July 1, 2019. According to Dave Nelson, President and Chief Operating Officer of Maytag Aircraft, “All is going as planned.”
In May and June, a number of refueling trucks were delivered and currently all are in operation, taking fuel from the tank farm and delivering this fuel to various aircraft; from C17s to smaller aircraft and helicopters.
Nelson is happy, stating, “We’re open for business. This is a big milestone – we’re busy receiving fuel, refueling aircraft, and refueling generators.”
The whole system, including both a gas station and bulk storage tank farm, were newly constructed – new buildings, plumbing, and pavement area to take delivery of fuel by tanker truck. The fuel is delivered by tanker truck into large tanks, and then fuel is issued into Maytag Aircraft trucks to deliver to aircraft or generators on the base.
Government vehicles can pull up to the gas station and fill up their tanks as well.
Maytag Aircraft recently was awarded five-year contracts to provide air terminal and ground handling services to the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) in four countries. On July 1, the contracts started in Caracas, Venezuela; Bogota, Columbia; Panama City, Panama; and Kingston, Jamaica. These contracts are a continuation of services Maytag Aircraft had been providing.
Nelson says, “All is going well. I was recently in Jamaica meeting with the really good people with whom we do business.”
Maytag Aircraft has a large fuels contract in this area, with the Al Udeid airbase, one of the largest airbases in the Middle East. The airbase is extremely busy these days due to the problems in the Strait of Hormuz and shipping threats posed there by Iran. There has been a build-up of forces to ensure safe passage in the Strait. This base is home to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) and where aircraft flying runs over Syria originated in the last 2-3 years.
“Maytag is proud to support the strategic mission of Al Uldeid Air Base,” states Nelson.
